Specific Tasks:

  • Process medical referrals as ordered by the military medical providers of the Troop Medical Clinic.
  • Respond by telephone or email within 24hours when additional information is required for the processing of approved referrals.
  • Monitor the Tricare Portal daily for the approval of placed referrals. Upon approval of referrals, you shall notify the Soldier per phone and/or secure email within one business day.
  • Provide patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions in reviewing ancillary studies (i.e., Lab work, imaging studies, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Assess patient needs telephonically. You shall respond to all voicemail messages within one hour during the business day. All voicemail messages received after business day shall be returned within two hours after the start of the next business day.
  • Provide patient/family education and telephonic triage for Soldier care.
  • Provide assessment/evaluation via telephonic and in-person to include the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required.
  • Prescribe and communicates treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure documentation of procedures and treatments are accurately recorded within Soldier Treatment Record (STR) within same business day of treatment/visit.
  • Shall be able to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations for treatment of Soldiers.
  • Collect and assesses significant patient history information.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions.
  • Accurately document both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone consults.
  • Set up, operate and monitor specialized medical equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipment.
  • Ensure all non-expendable equipment that is used in patient care is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift IAW equipment manual, OSHA guidelines and/or CDC recommendations.
  • Perform/assist with procedures such as administration of oxygen, visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic specific procedures.
  • Replenish all government furnished expendable supplies in exam rooms daily.
  • Update laboratory testing control logs, updating record requirements, and training staff on all requirement aspects for the lab, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.

 

License:

  • Shall possess a current unrestricted Registered Nurse license.

 

Certification:

  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.

 

Experience:

  • Shall have experience of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits and Line of Duty health benefits.
