General Description:

The Protestant Coordinator of Religious Education works in conjunction with the Chaplain and shall be responsible for coordinating the overall management, logistical support, and program activities for the elementary-age (K-5) Protestant Religious Education ministries on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni (MCASI).

 

Specific Tasks:

  • Provide Sunday Children’s Church for elementary school-age children (Grades K-5), either by leading directly or by recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising volunteers. Teachings and activities will focus on Christian scripture and spiritual growth.
  • Conduct 52 Children’s Church meetings per year. These meetings will last 1 hour and be conducted at the MCASI Chapel on Sunday mornings.
  • Coordinate with Music Leader to conduct a children’s song during Christmas and Easter services.
  • Conduct 2 Holiday Specials per year at MCASI Chapel.
  • Coordinate, plan, and supervise a 3-day summer Vacation Bible School (VBS) program designed to encourage spiritual growth for elementary-age children during the DoDEA summer break. VBS will last 3 hours per day, and dates will be selected by Chapel Staff.
  • Conduct 1 Summer VBS per year.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers to assist in the execution of Children’s Church and VBS. This includes conducting an initial informal interview, providing curriculum, and conducting training, and ensuring completion of a background check submitted through Station PMO.
  • Maintain an up-to-date volunteer roster to include name, address, phone number, email, military affiliation, role in the program, training completed, and hours volunteered.
  • Forecast resources and budget requirements for projected/planned activities, on a quarterly basis, to include the procurement of supplies, literature and curriculum needed for the program. Shall be responsible for the submission of necessary paperwork for scheduling and reserving of facilities in support of programs and the arrangement of audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Outline objectives, locations, dates, times, budget, number of volunteers needed, and number of persons allotted to attend each event. These plans shall be completed and submitted to the Command Chaplain or designated chaplain at least 90 days prior to the scheduled events.
  • Attend meetings and submit reports.
  • Monthly and Annual Reporting – Compile and submit all reports to Command Chaplain.
  • Create and communicate any program advertisement or promotions to Chapel Staff at least 30 days prior to event. Chapel staff will approve and distribute through chapel newsletters, chapel social media group, and printed flyers.
  • Maintain continuity/turnover files for all Protestant Religious Education programs, to include curriculum, calendars, budgets, and requirements provided in monthly reports.
  • Maintain a record of all proposed plans and documents for program events. Each record shall also include the registrations and attendance records with student rosters by grade, name, address and phone number of each student, the permission slips, power of attorney, etc., as required, for example off-station events requiring transportation.
  • Disseminate information regarding policies, registration, calendars, letters, bulletins, and other appropriate notices to the community.
  • Ensure all facilities utilized for events are properly cleaned and reset prior to departure.
  • Ensure all facilities used are properly secured, to include all doors and windows, following the conclusion of events, oversees when chapel personnel are not present.
  • Upon assignment by the Contracting Officer, you shall provide services in any chapel or approved facility located within the confines of MCASI or other facilities as directed.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • One-year relevant experience in religious education and program coordination field.
  • Certification in Child or Youth Ministry from a recognized Christian denomination or institution.
  • Certificates of completion for child protection training (e.g., Safe Church, Ministry Safe, etc.).
  • Proficient in written and oral communication, effectively conveying information, ideas, and instructions.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English to perform assigned tasks.
  • Able to efficiently plan and organize.
  • Able to effectively supervise and lead others in a respectful and professional manner.
