General Description:

Neurologist shall be responsible for providing Neurological Care. Cover the range of Neurology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art health care medical treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by the American College of Physicians- Internal Medicine and American College of Neurology Guidelines.

 

Specific Tasks:

  • Provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and in the Emergency Department setting.
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
  • Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Neurological clinical patients.
  • Involve the patient in care decisions by keeping him/her fully informed about the diagnosis, plan of care, treatment goals, risks, benefits of proposed treatments and prognosis. Shared decision making shall be pursued. Care provided will respect and integrate the patient’s beliefs, values, cultural influences and special needs.
  • Ensures that medical record documentation contains at a minimum or exceeds HCFA/CMS Medicare guidelines.
  • Provide outpatient procedure and clinic services through the scheduled clinics.
  • Provide consultations and follow-ups in a time frame as required by the patient’s medical condition.
  • Responsible for follow-up and communicating test results ordered by provider.
  • Perform rounds and participate in resident teaching.
  • The patient’s medical record will be annotated immediately after face-to-face consultation.
  • All medical records noted to be incomplete are to be completed within 10 days after notification.
  • All outpatient encounter forms are to be correctly completed on the day of the patient’s visit to the clinic and/or services rendered.
  • Provide on call emergency Neurology services as assigned by the Chief of Neurology. This will include coverage 24 hours per day 7 days per week (weekends and holidays) during coverage assignments. Must report within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency (must be available within 10 minutes by phone) and must be available for weekend coverage including rounds (consults and follow-ups) during assignment periods.
  • Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications and outcome of examinations.
  • Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Contract Physician (s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care.  All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be reported.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Shall be licensed in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Must be board certified or eligible for certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine in Neurology. All continuing education required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.
