General Description:
Licensed/Certified Clinical Social Worker shall provide confidential assessment, counseling and referral services, supervisory training, and mental health education for the employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District (MVN), including as directed visits to sites (in and around the areas of Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Vidalia, Morgan City, Lake Charles, and Venice.) Professional counseling services shall be provided but not limited to those areas of social, economic, and vocational health concerns such as: alcohol and drug dependency, trauma, gambling, depression, grief, co-dependency, stress management, workplace violence, personal and workplace relationships, child/spousal abuse, crisis intervention and other topics that relate to employees. Will periodically proactively meet employees and supervisors at their workstation to communicate support and build a trusting employee/counselor relationship and to assess educational/training needs of employees and supervisors.
Specific Tasks:
- Provide referral services for diagnosis, treatment, and assistance, plus case monitoring and follow-up services.
- Provide consultation with, training or, and assistance to work organization leadership (managers, supervisors, and union stewards) seeking to manage the troubled employee regarding typical reactions to the event, reasonable expectations for performance, and strategies to facilitate recovery; enhance the work environment and improve employee job performance; and outreach to and education of employees and their family members about availability of EAP services.
- Hold private conversations with individuals to offer support and help develop strategies to help employees reach optimum mental health. Assessment for suicidal and /or homicidal risk occurs during these responses.
- Large Group/Small Group Support Sessions: Specialist meet with groups of similarly impacted employees to build cohesion, educate, support, and provide resiliency/ recovery strategies.
- Site visits to field sites in and around the areas of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Vidalia, Morgan City, Lake Charles, and Venice.
- Should a client request counseling outside of business hours and appears to be experiencing an acute crisis, as determined by Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC), services shall be provided.
- Provide educational in-services with up-to-date information using latest videos, DVDs, power point presentations as needed and a minimum of quarterly.
- Proactively organize and participate in support groups in conjunction with the CPAC.
- Assist in drug prevention training as needed by the CPAC.
- Assist in the District Drug Testing Program to include but not limited to the following: provide EAP counseling, assist client with outpatient drug rehabilitation placement, aftercare therapy, case management and follow-up care.
- Publish weekly articles in MVN (Mississippi Valley – New Orleans) newsletter on topics that are relative to the employees and their families as a tool to educate and advertise the EAP.
- Provide content to keep the EAP website current as determined by the CPAC.
Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in mental health field
- Licensed/Certified Clinical Social Worker or Mental Health Provider
- Certified with Employee Assistance Program Administration
- US Department of Transportation qualified, trained, and tested Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Certified Critical Incident Response with at least 1 year of experience in critical incident response services.
