General Description:

All tasks shall be accomplished in accordance with Air Force Instructions and DoD regulations and all other pertinent Air Force, and local command policies and publications. Education Technician must read AFI, Education Services Program, OTS and Airman Commissioning Programs and become thoroughly familiar with the CCAF Handbook and Counselors Guide, as well as all on base schools and degree programs.

 

Specific Tasks:

  • Detailed Description of Service Education Level Updates
  1. Enlisted member’s Official transcript is required to update education level in AFAEMS as well as MilPDS. Date Obtained, Degree Level, Method Obtained, Degree Specialty and Institution codes will be updated in both systems by the AF Counselors.
  2. Officers: Provide instructions on how to contact AFIT to members.
  3. Counseling Notes: Anytime an action is taken concerning a member’s record, a detailed counseling note will be placed in notes section of AFAEMS record.
  • Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Advising
  1. Maintain working knowledge of all CCAF active catalogs available at CCAF’s web site.
  2. Maintain working knowledge of Advisors’ Handbook available on CCAF’s non-public web site.
  3. Advise members of degree status using Web Progress Report (PR) available on AFAEMS.
  4. Advise members of needed requirements and methods for fulfilling to include college courses and acceptable examinations.
  5. Annotate Counseling Note section of AFAEMS after each advising session.
  6. Submit CCAF Action Requests via AFAEMS to update basic credit applications or nominate member for degree completion.
  7. Schedule appointments with for members with numerous CCAF related questions.
  8. Assist with preparations and implementation of graduation event.
  9. Advise members on process to order CCAF transcript via AFAEMS or mail request.
  10. Advise members on process to have civilian college transcripts sent to CCAF.
  11. Two times a year run the advance standing list on CCAF Website and contact each student by e-mail.
  • Marketing
  1. Ensure marketing displays in ETS reception area remain fully stocked with current, pertinent information and front office marketing screen is updated regularly.
  2. Update flyers and contacts for local scholarship information on Shared Network Drive and in marketing displays.
  3. Ensure points of contact and deadlines on local scholarship applications to include, but not be limited to, Aviano Officer’s and Civilian Spouse’s Club (AOCSC), Aviano Community Enlisted Spouses (ACES), Aviano Top Three Association, Dolomiti Chapter of the NCOA, Chief’s Group, and Air Force Sergeants Association are accurate.
  4. Present education information at weekly Right Start information fair
  5. In the absence of ESS, attend Airman and Family Readiness Center (AFRC) weekly Right Start information fair for base newcomers and present education center information, conduct Initial Tuition Assistance Briefing, Informed Decision, Airman Leadership School (ALS) and other unit briefings.
  6. Will be a test administrator once per week, administering all approved examinations which are not administered by the NATIONAL TEST CENTER. Tests will be administered in accordance with instructions provided in the testing handbooks, test examiner guides and TCO/ATCO instructions to ensure no possibility of test compromise.
  • Administrative Duties
  1. Program for Spouses
  2. Inform Spouses of different options available to them such as MyCAA, FAFSA, GI BILL, Scholarships, Grants, Federal Loans and Local Scholarships.
  3. Emails/Telephone Calls/Walk in Customers
  4. Answer all incoming telephone calls in professional manner providing required assistance.
  5. Service all walk in customers in professional manner providing required assistance. Manage emails to ETS generic address; Check ETS Outlook in Box hourly and take appropriate action on all emails.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Bachelor degree experience in the education field preferred.
  • Bachelor degree and/or 15-30 semester hours in counseling; secondary education in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Appropriate related professional work or volunteer experience of at least 1 year is desirable.
  • Knowledge of/experience with AF terminology, office procedures, and education programs plus familiarity/facility with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access is desirable.
  • Must have the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
