Optometry Technician
Place of Performance: Fort Bliss, TX
Specific Tasks:
- Shall see an average of 10 to 12 patients per hour and/or the patient per hour average of the other collective CPs, unless affected by circumstances beyond their control, which shall be reported to the Section OIC/NCOIC or designee.
- Shall comply with all MTF productivity standards and maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.
- Shall receive service members, explain methods of procedures.
- Conduct initial interviews with service members to gather medical history and information on visual complaints, past eye injuries, and family histories of eye diseases.
- Identify any unconventional problem area that may be affecting the service member’s visual or overall well-being.
- Administer various visual tests for preliminary data and special examinations.
- Receives and orients service member.
- Set up equipment to conduct diagnostic tests.
- Ensure that any unusual results or problems with any tests are brought to the CP, optometrist, or supervisor’s
- Document care given.
- Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with applicable directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy.
- Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and complete.
- Prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards to include but not limited to timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, and
- Complete each encounter at the end of the day and appropriately close the record.
- Shall comply with all health requirements, immunizations, and vaccinations.
- Shall complete all DoD, DHA, and MTF-specified training requirements.
- Shall personally record hours worked in the Defense Medical Human Resources System – internet (DMHRSi) system, or other system, as required by the MTF.
Education:
- High school equivalent or completion of an optometric technician course or show evidence of training and certification obtained through the Army, Navy, or Air Force Optometry Technician program.
Experience:
- Possess a minimum of one year experience within the last three years working as a full-time Optometry technician.
Additional Certification:
- Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. The American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times.
