Emergency Department Physician Assistant
Place of Performance: Bethesda, MD
Specific Tasks:
- Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., advise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
- Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
- Must be able to prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and promote preventative and health maintenance care.
- Other duties include teaching and overseeing nurse practitioners and physician assistant students as assigned along with mentoring other medical professionals working in the Emergency Department to enhance clinical operational readiness.
Qualifications:
- Must have graduated from a physician assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Must have two years of Emergency Department experience within the last three years.
- Shall have a current certification in National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare Providers or American Red Cross (ARC) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer, and AHA/ARC Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS).
