Dental Assistant
Place of Performance: Fort Bliss, TX
Specific Tasks:
- Assist dentist in many aspects of direct patient
- Shall comply with all MTF productivity standards and maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.
- Demonstrate proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning equipment and
- Perform radiological exams/imaging ensuring that images are characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented, and properly exposed in a timely
- Provides accurate and understandable instructions to patients reporting any problems to the
- Assists dentist in charging findings and treatment plans in patient
- Shall comply with all health requirements, immunizations, and vaccinations.
- Shall complete all DoD, DHA, and MTF-specified training requirements.
- Shall personally record hours worked in the Defense Medical Human Resources System – internet (DMHRSi) system, or other system, as required by the MTF.
Education:
- Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.
- Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.
Training:
- All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.
Certification:
- Certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75.
Experience:
- Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as a full-time Dental Assistant.
Additional Certification:
- Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. The American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times.
