Place of Performance: Beaufort, SC
General Description:
The position is designed to meet each student’s individualized education program (IEP) and/or individualized health plan (IHP). If required by the student’s IEP or IHP, you shall accompany the students on the school bus to and from the school. The number of sessions/hours may increase/decrease at any given time as families of students with disabilities move to and from DoDEA locations.
Specific Tasks:
- Perform services in accordance with IEP-mandated goals.
- Provide services daily from 0800-1530 when school is in session.
- Perform simultaneously and consecutive interpretation from English.In this process, teach the child signs that he/she does not know.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of its services is maintained.
- Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Interpreter Code of Profession Conduct to include all applicable confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Adhere to the Standards of Conduct.
- Not release any personal information regarding any person authorized for services.
- Meet with parents/sponsors if required.
- Complete required trainings.
- Attend virtual meetings and provide the medium through which each meeting occurs, record each meeting’s minutes. Submit the draft minutes within two business days of the event and finalize the minutes two business days after receipt of written feedback.
Qualifications:
- Must be an American Sign Language (ASL) certified.
- Must be fluent in English and in ASL which combines signing, finger spelling, and specific body language.
- Possess a minimum of one year of experience of translating and interpreting through the use of English and American Sign Language or other work requiring the use of those sign languages.
- Possess a minimum of one year of experience of translating and interpreting for elementary-age children in school settings.
- Possess basic computer skills.
