Computer Support Technician
Place of Performance: Cannon Air Force Base, NM
General Description:
Computer Support Technician shall provide hardware and software system administrative support to include Local Area Network (LAN), and maintenance on all computers for the Base Training and Education Services (BTES) office to include servers, fax machines, receivers, switches, routers, printers and other peripherals critical to proper function of Cannon AFB BTES technology systems.
Specific Tasks:
- Maintain clear, concise, and effective communications with BTES office, Unit personnel and leadership groups; must adhere to and follow Department of Defense Instructions (DoDIs), Air Force Instructions (AFIs), Personnel Services Delivery (PSD) Guides and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All tasks shall be accomplished in accordance with (IAW) the aforementioned regulations and the local computer/technology guidelines.
- Remain current on methods and procedures within the Information/Computer Technology support community.
- Provide maintenance on Cannon AFB BTES Web page in compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) directives. Update links, build pages, link appropriate documents and databases, manage layout and meet any other requirements to ensure quality of Web page and that it integrates with the Air Force BTES website.
- Implement any new systems (software/hardware) as provided by the BTES Flight Chief. Assist in identifying needed upgrades and set up new computers and other information systems to support gradual improvement of the BTES facility.
- Provide all networking architecture recommendations and networking support to improve BTES network.
- Establish procedures for safeguarding all critical data. Design back- up methodology to guarantee uninterrupted Base Educations Office services to customer.
- Develop tracking system to (including all required documentation) monitor all information systems. Establish diagram of facility (i.e., eTesting room, eWAPS rooms, Education Office) with associate database to track fixes and implementation of information
- Provide safe migration of important data from one system to another. Install and maintain Education Center’s primary database. Conduct upgrades to database and provide training to BTES personnel.
- Provide recommendations to director of facility for future planning and improvements to existing information system structure.
- Assist BTES Flight Chief in research and purchase of all information systems and components required to improve existing structure.
- Provide proper information security on all systems. Educate personnel on proper security procedures to protect sensitive data and records in compliance with CUI and directives.
- Train office personnel on software required for them to efficiently execute their jobs.
- Perform any other critical technical system support as requested by the BTES team leader for successful operation of the BTES
- Fix all local area network (LAN) problems that may arise in the BTES Offices and troubleshoot non-complex software problems.
- Ensure all equipment is fully operational. Monitor the use of computer equipment periodically and shall be available to assist with any technical problems. Notify the Flight Chieff any malfunctioning equipment as soon as possible but no later than 3 business days of discovery.
Qualifications:
- Proof of experience (two to five years) in both hardware and latest software Experience in computer tech support, to include verifiable professional references and relevant training/certification within industry.
- Must be capable of passing a DoD security clearance at the “Secret” level or above.
- Excellent customer service skills and verbal communications skills are essential.
- Shall maintain working knowledge with CUI (previously known as Privacy Act Information (PII) and information security.
